Most Important Invention
Seth rates the air conditioner as the most important invention in the past 100 years. For Phoenix this is unquestionably true.
Last night the overnight low temperature was 91°. There's no question in my mind about the importance of air conditioning -- otherwise we wouldn't have nearly 4 million people living here.

I remember visiting my grandparents in Mesa during the summer when I was young. They lived off of Ellsworth Road (at the end of civilization at the time). Coming from Rexburg, of course it was WAAAY hot. We'd stay inside and enjoy Grandma's air conditioning, only venturing out at night when it was "cool". Even then, the pavement would burn my (always) bare feet. Once in a while, we go to a municipal pool during the day to swim. I'd get fried, of course.
I like the Phoenix area. BTW, have you been to The Mining Camp yet?
