Doctor Performing SurgeryYou know how I felt when Katharine landed in the bottom three the first time. You can imagine how I felt about last night.

I've spent a great deal of time reflecting on what happened last night. Chris in the bottom three? How can that be? And Kellie not in the bottom three? Chris is the best and has been the best throughout the season. Katharine is the only direct contender against Chris in my opinion and yet here we are. The bottom three were Chris, Ace and Paris. Ace of course went home as I suspected, but that's not news at all.

After giving it some serious thought, I think I've figured out what happened. All of the intelligent people with taste who normally would have voted were actually performing surgery Tuesday night. It's the only explanation. So next week, make sure your pager informs you to vote, then take a minute to actually do it.

Note: I thought what Taylor Hicks did was kind of funny, but I thought that making him choose sides was a crappy Survivor-esque thing to do..

Last nights results were proof that it is easier to hit redial when someone lacks opposable thumbs.

Suffice it to say I share your confusion. I have to also say that while I honestly do like Simon and feel he is one of the only judges to give honest or helpful feedback and criticism that he really disappointed last night as well. He was only too happy to take some credit for such a positive response to Chris' performance taking his advice to break out of his mold and show a different side. But when it didn't go the way he expected working against instead of for him all he could say was he wasn't the one who sang. As for the voters I think they really blew it last night and my theory is that there must have been an entire group that usually votes that just didn't because they don't like the genre of music which will only get worse with next week's theme. And I totally agree with the crap situation of making Taylor choose - that was just low.

I was disappointed to see them making Taylor pick which group to stand with - there was no winning that for him. Either way it went, there would be continuing idol contestants who might take offense that he thought they were the bottom 3.

As for the actual bottom three, all I can say is that people have perhaps become complacient about voting - thinking that Chris is doing so well that they don't need to vote for him.

I think the voting should be limited to 10 votes per phone line - or something similar so that automated dialing systems that can be set up don't affect the outcome.

I must say I thought Chris showed his lack of versatilty last performance, where as Katherine showed she's pretty strong all-around(country, r&b etc.) I prefer that myself, but that's not what most people vote on. I'm starting to like Taylor more each week... his shtick was starting to wear thin on me there for a couple of weeks...but he has that energy, that intangible quality to a degree the others just don't have. Could he win it all? For some reason it seems improbable that he could. He's not the "polished" or "pretty" package you would expect people to gravitate towards. He's more like your rowdy, goofy neighbor you barbeque with and that plays on weekends at the local dive. But hey, THAT'S what's cool. Let's all vote him in!
