The Bunny Chow
I just uploaded chapter 39 of The Agency Delta. This is one of my favorite chapters in the book.
I lived in the Durban (South Africa) area for only a few months, but its culture really got under my skin. In chapter 39, I take one of my favorite characters down to the Indian Market (now the Victora Street Market) for a bunny chow (you really should click the link to learn what a bunny is). I could sure go for one of those right now. Mmmm, mutton curry.

The Bunny Chow
The Bunny Chow was introduced into the Grey Street Restaurant mentioned in your article but it was in 1954.
This was as a result of the Apartheid Laws being introduced, when diners at the restaurant could no longer come in and sit down for their curry.
The then owner of the restaurant who’s nickname was “Bunny” decided to open a hatch from the restaurant into the street where black patrons could be served. In order to keep the costs down, the curry was served in a ¼ loaf of bread. Hence the name given to the dish “Bunny Chow”
